Tool guide

What should a trading plan include?

A trading plan is a precommitted document that defines markets, methodology, risk management, entry/exit rules and behavioral limits before live decision pressure appears.

Logic / formula

There is no single formula; strategy, risk and execution rules are organized into a versioned document.

Read the output

Read the output as a trading-policy document and completion state, not a signal.

Logic, formula and methodology

A trading plan is a precommitted document that defines markets, methodology, risk management, entry/exit rules and behavioral limits before live decision pressure appears. There is no single formula; strategy, risk and execution rules are organized into a versioned document.

Versioned trading-plan construction with completeness scoring, required-section blockers, risk-limit consistency, deterministic Plan ID, Markdown export, local version history, and explicit change-control rules.

Worked example

Example
Maximum three trades, 2% daily stop, and no entry near major news
The example creates three measurable rules: maximum three trades, 2% daily stop and no entry near high-impact news; changes should be versioned.

How to read the result

The output reflects process quality, not a certain trade result. A warning means something should be corrected before proceeding.

Completion is more than form-fill percentage. Check required blockers first, then risk-limit consistency and Draft/Frozen/Active state. Freezing identifies the version intended for evaluation over a defined period without silent rule changes.

What the TupTrader version adds

The value of this version is not cosmetic; the result, assumptions and workflow are connected to the practical capabilities below.

  • Plan versioning
  • Draft/Frozen/Active states
  • Change log
  • Version diff
  • Allowed markets/sessions
  • Risk policy reference
  • Daily limits
  • News rules
Turn the result into a workflow

Resolve the warning. Check risk and setup with related tools. Record the decision and outcome in the journal.

Common mistakes and limitations

  • Using the tool after entry
  • Changing answers to obtain a preferred result
  • Ignoring plan limits
  • A good plan does not prove a strategy has an edge; it makes decisions and change control explicit. Rules still require backtest, forward-test and live-execution evidence.

Frequently asked questions

When should I freeze a plan?

When required sections are complete, limits are consistent and rules are explicit enough to execute without live reinterpretation.

Should I create a new version after one loss?

A single outcome is usually weak evidence for a rule change; changes should have a reason, evidence and change log.

How is a plan different from a setup?

The plan governs the overall account and process; a setup defines one repeatable opportunity inside that framework.
